The Yashwantrao Chavan Maharashtra Open University (YCMOU) was established in July 1989 by Act XX- (1989) of the Maharashtra State Legislature. It is the Fifth Open University in the country. The jurisdiction of this university, originally for the State of Maharashtra, has now been extended beyond this State and the university can now operate anywhere across the globe. The YCMOU has been recognized under section 12 (B) of the University Grants Commission Act, 1956.

The Head office of the university is located at Nashik. The university operates through its 11 Regional Centers (RCs) at Amravati, Aurangabad, Kolhapur, Mumbai, Nashik, Nanded, Nagpur, Pune, Kalyan, Sopalur, Goa and a network of Study Centres (SCs).

YCMOU Study Centre 52135, Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar College of Social Work, Morane, Dhule was established in 2012. The study centre comes under the Regional Centre, Nashik. Principal Dr. Jalindar Adsule is Center In-Charge of the Study Centre 52135.

The center has played an important role. It provides opportunities for students who are unable to continue their formal education. Several aspirants have to work due to economic compulsions. These students, who are deprived of the mainstream of education, can continue to learn while they earn. It is also a much cheaper option as compared to the formal education.

Several Indian families, especially in the rural areas have a narrow mindset regarding women's education. Therefore many women are forced to drop their education in the halfway and are made to marry without completing their education. Open education gives women a golden chance to study again.

 Unlike formal education, distance education does not have an age barrier students of any age can enroll for distance learning.

According to university regulations, the admission process is conducted once a year, in the month of July. Examination is conducted twice a year, in May and December. The study center carries out various activities, such as the induction meeting, which is a welcome function for newly enrolled students, distributing books, conducting theory counseling sessions, submission and evaluation of assignments etc.
